My Natural Medicine Cabinet
In the Radford home, we try to do things as natural as we can, from food, cleaning products, soaps, and of course medicine. So today I am sharing what is in our medicine cabinet. Medicine cabinets are usually stocked with over the counter produc that help with minor medical issues, such as headaches, sinus issues, insects bite, cuts, stomach issues, and more. In our home we manly use essential oils and teas for this issues with a few natural supplements here or there. Here is our list-
For Headaches- lavender oil- dilute and rub on temples and forehead, or basil oil diluted and rub on base of skull near spine.
Turmeric tea- you can by a tea or you can take 1/4 teaspoon of turmeric to 8oz of boiled water and make a tea.
If the headache is severe you can always try a coffee enema. I know this sounds harsh but it works !
Cold/Flu/Sinus issues- inhale/diffuse- peppermint oil, eucalyptus oil, lavender oil,or frankincense oil.
Also each oil brand has a mix of oils that helps greatly with these issues, in Young's Living, it is called Thieves, in Fabulous Frannie brand, it is called Protect (they also have one called cold and flu).
Sore throat- warm honey in tea like chamomile or peppermint, helps greatly.
Always stay hydrated when battling any of these issues.
Stomach issues- Nausea- inhale/diffuse peppermint oil or ginger oil, also dilute it and rub it on your stomach and temples. Drink peppermint tea or suck on a natural peppermint.
Diarrhea- lavender oil, peppermint oil, ginger oil, or orange oil, diluted and rub on stomach. Drink chamomile, catnip, or fennel tea. Always try and stay hydrated!
Constipation- dilute peppermint and black pepper oils with warm carrier oil and rub on stomach or dilute oils and lay on a heating pad. Drink a ginger tea. Black coffee is also a mover! Always drink plenty of water also! ( I also use a bowel stimulant from GetWellStayWellathome.com)
Bloating- Frankincense oil- dilute and rub on stomach, this is also good for PMS.
Insect bites- dilute lavender oil and/or tea tree oil and rub on bite, place a cold spoon on bite. Place a cooled chamomile tea bag on bite.
Cuts/scrapes- lavender, rosemary, myrrh, or tea tree oils all have antibacterial and healing properties. Dilute them and rub on cuts and scrapes, you can also use a cold spoon to help with the sting of a cut or scrape.
Sleep aids- inhale/diffuse lavender or chamomile oils. You can dilute them and rub them on your temples. Each oil brand has their own sleep mix of oils also. One of my favorites is "Peace and Calming" from Young's Living. I also use "Sleep" from Fabulous Frannie.
Joint/Muscle Pain- Mix a couple of drops of frankincense, lavender, and peppermint oils with a tsp. of carrier oil and rub on affected area and use a heating pad if you can.
Ear Ache- dilute a couple drops frankincense, basil, and lavender oils and rub them around the outside of the ear. Lay on a heating pad to help relief.
Tooth Ache- dilute a couple drops clove, lavender, and/or chamomile oils and rub them on jaw near tooth with the issues.( I know some people actually place oils on the tooth in the mouth but i personally just rub the oils on jaw.)
So that is what I keep in my medicine cabinet to help with these issues.
Always educate yourself on the products you use. Always dilute essential oils and test them on a small section of skin. Make sure an essential oil is kid friendly before using it on a child.
